Put on a more pleasing smile with porcelain veneers.

Veneers have been one of the most widely used ceramic dental restorations in recent times. They are used for multiple purposes - both aesthetic and restorative, and their simple structure makes it easier to carry out the treatment. Here's a brief read about dental veneers that will help you understand them better and make a more informed decision before choosing them.

What are the benefits of getting veneers?

  • Veneers do not alter the natural tooth structure. They enhance the aesthetics of the teeth.
  • They can be used to restore teeth that are cracked or fractured.
  • Teeth that are chipped or disfigured due to external trauma can be brought back to their original shape and size with the help of veneers. Sometimes, patients could have teeth that are naturally misshapen. Such teeth can be restored using veneers.
  • Discolored teeth can be made to look whiter when veneers are bonded to their frontal surface.
  • When the teeth are inappropriately spaced, such as in the case of spacing and crowding, veneers can be used to make them look perfectly spaced.
  • They can be used to align crooked and misaligned teeth properly.
  • They are long-lasting. They do not stain or chip easily.
  • As they're made from tooth-colored porcelain, they aren't easily noticeable. You can smile without having to worry about the restoration.

What is the procedure involved in bonding a veneer to your tooth?

Veneers are not a one-size-fits-all type of restorations. They are custom-fabricated according to the contour, size, and requirement of the patient's tooth, allowing it to offer excellent fit and comfort. When you visit us for the initial consultation, we will take highly advanced digital scans of the mouth and use them to create a digital impression of the tooth. It will be used as a reference for fabricating the veneer in a dental laboratory.

Ideally, it may take a few days for the veneer to be fabricated, after which the dentist will schedule the follow-up consultation for you. If we had placed a temporary veneer on your tooth to protect the prepared surface, it would be removed, and the tooth would be cleaned thoroughly. The surface of the tooth will be roughened using an etching liquid, after which the dentist will place the veneer on it and check for a perfect fit. If any modifications are required, the dentist will make them and bond it to the tooth using dental adhesives. The adhesives will be hardened using a suitable curing light, after which the veneer may be polished to enhance its aesthetics.

How to care for your veneers?

Since veneers are extremely thin restorations, they would have to be cared for well to make sure they do not sustain damage. Avoid biting or chewing hard foods, as this could crack the veneer. Consumption of colored foods, aerated beverages, and other soft drinks, smoking cigarettes or chewing tobacco, etc., should be avoided to maintain the aesthetics of the veneer.

Please feel free to reach us on call or through online consultation to know more about dental veneers, and we'll be glad to assist you further with the treatment.
